APPE Special Paper Competitions

 

All submissions for the special paper competitions must follow the Annual Conference paper submission guidelines and must include a completed Submission form indicating for which competition they are submitting a paper.

Award Categories require all submission items (500 word blind abstract with separate title page, Submission Form, and summary paragraph) and full paper to be submitted by the award submission deadline of November 3, 2015. All award winners are invited to present at the upcoming APPE international Conference.

Best Formal Papers on Pre-College Ethics – First Prize $750, Second Prize $500

The Association, with support of the Squire Family Foundation, sponsors a competition to advance the work of those interested in pre-college ethics. The Association for Practical and Professional Ethics will present an award for the top two papers submitted on innovative and effective approaches to teaching pre-college ethics or involving pre-college students in ethics education.

Best Formal Paper by an Early Career Scholar – $500 prize

The Association is pleased to announce a competition for the best paper submitted by an Early Career Scholar, in practical or professional Ethics (An Early Career Scholar is defined as one who has received a Ph.D. or other terminal degree within the last eight years). Up to three awards may be made in this category.

Karen M.T. Muskavitch Award for Graduate Work in Practical Ethics – $500 Prize

The Association is pleased to announce a competition for the best paper submitted by a graduate student. Preference will be given to papers which focus on topics in research ethics, or innovative and effective approaches for teaching and engaging students in research ethics. Award winners also receive free registration to the Annual Meeting.

Best Formal Paper by a Graduate Student – $500 Prize

The Association is pleased to announce a competition for the best paper submitted by a graduate student in practical or professional ethics. Award winners also receive free registration to the Annual Meeting.

A select number of submissions in the above competitions will be considered for publication in the International Journal of Applied Philosophy.

Undergraduate Formal Paper Competition – Free Conference Registration

The Association is pleased to invite undergraduate students to submit papers on any topic in practical and professional ethics. Award winners receive a certificate and free registration to the Annual Meeting and be invited to share their presentation as a Poster in one of the Annual Conference Poster Sessions, if desired.

Submitters must follow the Annual Meeting paper submission guidelines and must include a completed Submission Form indicating for which competition they are submitting a paper. Click here for the 2016 APPE Submission Form.

All submissions must include a 2016 APPE Audio Visual Form (even if they have NO NEEDS).  The deadline for submitting the AV form is January 8, 2016.  No changes will be accepted after the deadline.
